A MINI-TUMMY TUCK SURGERY (MINI-ABDOMINOPLASTY)
A mini tummy tuck, also known as a mini abdominoplasty, is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure designed to flatten and tone the lower abdomen. It’s ideal for patients with a small amount of loose skin and excess fat below the belly button who want a smoother, more youthful tummy without undergoing full abdominoplasty surgery.
What Is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
Mini tummy tuck surgery removes excess skin and stubborn fat from the lower stomach and waistline, and tightens the underlying abdominal muscles for a firmer, more contoured appearance. This focused procedure helps restore confidence and create a more defined silhouette.
What a Mini Tummy Tuck Can’t Do
It does not treat loose skin or fat above the navel or in the upper abdomen or chest area.
If you have more significant skin laxity above the belly button, a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) may be more suitable.
To enhance results, we often combine mini tummy tuck surgery with:
Liposuction using Microaire power-assisted technology
Ultrasonic fat emulsification (Liposaver)
Radiofrequency skin tightening using Quantum RF or Renuvion
How the Procedure Works
A curved incision is made low on the abdomen, carefully placed to be hidden within underwear or bikini lines.
The skin is lifted from the underlying tissue, and excess fat is removed, typically using liposuction.
Abdominal muscles are tightened to create a more sculpted waist.
The skin is redraped, trimmed, and sutured smoothly into place.
A mini tummy tuck does not involve repositioning the belly button.
The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic, usually as a day-case surgery with no overnight stay.
Recovery After Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery
Recovery is much quicker than after a full abdominoplasty.
Most patients can return to normal daily activities within 5–10 days.
Full recovery typically takes around 2–3 weeks.
Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for approximately 4 weeks after surgery.
Long-Term Results
Mini abdominoplasty offers long-lasting results when paired with a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise.
Poor diet and inactivity may lead to the return of fat in the abdominal area over time, although if you have undergone liposuction the area treated is more resistant to weight gain for the long term.

KEY TREATMENT AREAS
A Mini-Tummy tuck is perfect for anyone who has only a small amount of stubborn fat or excess skin around the lower abdomen that they cannot get rid of through diet and exercise alone.
FULVIO’S ADVICE
Many more people request a mini-tummy tuck than are suitable for it. A mini tummy tuck is ideal for people with a tight upper tummy (above the belly button), little or no muscle separation and loose skin only towards the bottom of their tummy.
AFTERCARE
Postoperative pain and recovery time are less than for other forms of tummy tuck but you should still not overdo it too soon after surgery. You will need a compressive garment for around 4 weeks and will need to wear surgical skin tape over the scar for 3 months.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
A Mini-Abdominoplasty is an operation to remove excess fat and skin from the lower tummy and waist, giving an overall tighter and more toned looking tummy area.
-
Your surgeon will make a cut across your waistline in a broad U-shape. The skin will be lifted and separated from the underlying tissue and the excess fat removed, sometimes by liposuction. The tummy muscles and associated tissue are then drawn together to tighten the waistline. The skin is pulled tight over the tummy, trimmed and then attached together. A Mini-Tummy Tuck does not involve repositioning the navel. The operation will take one to two hours to complete. You will require a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay in hospital.
-
Any procedure carries risks. In the case of Mini-Tummy Tuck, this includes permanent scarring which can become thick or lumpy, infection, bleeding or a collection of blood called a haematoma, the need to return to theatre for corrective surgery, the development of a collection of tissue fluid called a seroma and the possible need to drain it, asymmetry of the scar, and general risks of surgery such as an infection of the chest or clot formation in the legs or lungs. If liposuction is added there are further small stab scars, more extensive bruising and swelling, a greater risk of wound healing problems and the possibility of contour irregularity, or ridging where fat is removed. If you would like to discuss any of these risks further then please do get in touch with us.

A Mini-Abdominoplasty cannot remove fat or excess skin from the area above the navel or chest, it can only remove fat or excess skin from below the belly button.
-
After a Mini-Tummy Tuck, you should expect a slimmer, smoother and tighter lower abdominal area. A mini-tummy tuck can also be combined with liposuction and other surgical procedures, and can be repeated if you want to maintain your results.
-
You can expect the results of your Mini-Tummy Tuck to last for quite a while, although your lifestyle, diet and exercise routine will play a part in it all. Poor diet and not exercising will lead to a gradual build-up of excess fat around the tummy, undoing all the good work a Mini-Tummy Tuck achieves.
